Overview

The Chasers are young hunters who travel with a streamlined silver trailer with a crop circle painted on its side, run a bulletin-board service, and film their outings with an expensive home video camera. They triangulated the Bigfoot sightings: recent ones in town, including the newspaper photo, and older ones near Auraria around when the boy vanished, which put the search zone in between (Appalachia 01). The team treats them as a Scooby-Doo parody; their dog is a Great Dane "trained to smell the paranormal", and Appalachia 07 calls them "20% weedier" than the original (Appalachia 07).

Members

  • Sloth, said by another Chaser to have been a competitive sharpshooter in his youth. In Appalachia 02 he sides with the werewolf theory.
  • Eddie Jones, who argues that Bigfoot is people going feral in the woods, like domestic pigs gone wild.
  • Vanessa, who argues that Bigfoot is an undiscovered hominid.
  • Delilah, the red-haired member with the big VHS camcorder; the table compares her to Daphne in Appalachia 07.
  • Harvey, an enormous black Great Dane who leaps on Andrew and, in Appalachia 07, is scooped up by him and cradled like a baby.

History

First meeting

On the morning of the first day in Dahlonega, the team stopped at the Chasers' trailer on the way to the sheriff's station. Kurt gave them his pager number and warned them about missing people and the "religious weirdos". Andrew felt uneasy at being filmed (Appalachia 01). The Smith Hotel clerk had earlier refused them RV hookups for the trailer and told the team that at least one of them was probably armed and another stoned (Appalachia 01).

The rabbit snatch

That evening on the trail near Auraria the team ran into the Chasers, who showed them a three-second VHS clip: a rabbit frozen in the trail, then a gray man-sized blur grabs it. Kurt noted everyone's footwear to check against a sneaker print found beside giant footprints (Appalachia 02). After the exploded body and missing boys, Kurt called the Chasers to warn them that disappearances were accelerating, but they had no phone and he could only page them (Appalachia 04), and McManley mentioned teenagers in a van with "a real weird dog" on the hill near the Chewbacca body (Appalachia 06).

The tracking device

In Appalachia 07 the Chasers run into the Spud Hut lot while the team is at dinner. They explain that they found bear vomit full of blood and a blinking light, show it in their blacklit RV, and describe being chased by a bear "with, like, half a face" (see Half-faced Bear). The device turns out to be a SHA Tracking Device. Huell pays for the group's dinner with cash found in a garbage can; Delilah eats four chicken pot pie spuds (Appalachia 07).

Trivia

  • The group's home is called a trailer in Appalachia 01 and an RV in Appalachia 07; the episodes never say whether these are different vehicles.
  • Harvey says "Woof" after the Chasers' claims in Appalachia 01, a recurring table gag. See Running gags.
