Description¶
Lori is a buttoned-down, suit-wearing man who keeps his office in a nondescript brownstone. He is about 5'7" to 5'8" with a beard, mustache and brown hair, and drives a brown station wagon (Radford Horror 02, Radford Horror 04). Huell reads him as capable of violence if cornered. Derek Augustine tells the team he always got "kind of a weird vibe from the man" because "he likes jazz too much" (Radford Horror 05).
History¶
Radford Horror 01¶
Lori is introduced by Amanda's parents, Liam Lucky and his wife, who say she was seeing a therapist "for her grades" for about a year, that her grades got better, and that "we only have the one therapist in town." The team does not meet Lori yet (Radford Horror 01).
Radford Horror 02¶
The team visits his brownstone office after the Whateley house. His receptionist offers lemon candies and pages him, and after about fifteen minutes of small talk he comes out with a nervous teenage patient. Lori tells the agents that Irene Whateley began treatment a year and a half ago and quit six months earlier over lithium tremors and Prozac side effects. He denies ever prescribing Amanda Vicodin, saying there is no reason to give it for an anxiety disorder, and refuses to discuss patients without consent, but under pressure he names her boyfriend Dean Lawson as involved in drugs. Before leaving, the Biz plants a bug in the office; it rolls into a vent. At the pharmacy afterward, the team learns a Vicodin record for Amanda under Lori's name exists, and that the other Vicodin prescriptions from Lori are mostly for seventeen- and eighteen-year-olds (Radford Horror 02). See the bug in Dr. Lori's vent.
Radford Horror 03¶
Listening in from the car, the Biz hears Lori on a heated phone call before he hurries out. Kurt tails him to a ranch house, where Lori storms into a converted backyard barn, argues with the man inside, and leaves in a huff; the team later learns this is the Augustine house and barn. Andrew chooses to lose him rather than be seen (Radford Horror 03).
Radford Horror 04¶
The Biz breaks into the office at night, retrieves the bug from the furnace vent and photographs the files, but wrecks the back of a locked filing cabinet while trying to open it, so Lori will know someone was there. At the Pay n' Stay the team asks about a fishing-hat guest, Red Dutchford; his height, beard and brown station wagon match Lori's, but the clerk does not recognize the description (Radford Horror 04).
Radford Horror 05¶
Lori is not seen in person. The developed photos show Amanda's file: Xanax prescribed with a stated reason, doses later raised without explanation, no mention of opiates, and extra appointments that taper into "no shows" (patient files). Derek Augustine says Lori came by upset about a prescription he had not written (Radford Horror 05).
Radford Horror 06¶
Highway patrol finds two men in a motel, one torturing the other with pliers and a blowtorch. The victim, identified from his wallet, is Lori, and he is hospitalized. The torturer is Derek Augustine, who believes Lori kidnapped his daughter Phoebe (Radford Horror 06).
Radford Horror 08¶
The sheriff reports that Lori and Augustine have both confessed to an inappropriate sexual relationship with Amanda Lucky. Each had discovered the other's involvement, and Augustine then came to believe Lori was doing the same to his daughter Phoebe. Both are going to prison. The sheriff also believes Augustine broke into Lori's office, where animal feces were left in the toilet (Radford Horror 08).
