Description¶
A small field notebook with EPA branding, written largely in cryptic shorthand. It lay under a shelf in the lighthouse's hidden storage basement, which is reached through a trapdoor and a slide-down ladder. Kurt found it along with rope cut into two- or three-foot lengths and stained with blood, two teeth (a canine and an incisor) and a pair of chairs set out in the middle of the room, also bloodied. The replacement bulbs and mirrors for the lighthouse were smashed in their boxes. Kurt made the discovery with an Investigate a Mystery roll of 11 (9 +3 -1), and luminol later showed a bleach-cleaned trail of blood from the trapdoor to the front door and out to where a car would park (Summer Service 03).
Contents¶
- The nerve-agent conclusion. The scientists concluded that the cases of poisoning were caused by a nerve agent (Synthetic nerve agent).
- The fish. Several days were spent surveying local fish. Some were unknown species, distorted versions of known fish or "taxidermy mashups" with parts of one attached to another. Others looked normal but were packed with worms that had replaced their vital organs, and unlike the other fish they were not dead.
- Threats. At a town council meeting the scientists were threatened by the senior town officials and the mayor.
- The last entry. A local told them to check out the lighthouse, and that is where the notebook ends.
All of the above is from (Summer Service 03).
History¶
The team reads the journal at the end of the episode, after climbing out of the basement. The blood, the chairs and the cleaned trail lead the team to conclude that somebody was beaten up in a chair and then dragged out to a third location, most likely by the police given the taped-down radio at the door (Police walkie-talkie) (Summer Service 03).
The journal is a separate document from the earlier Survey team's field notes that the team found at the inn.
