Overview

The group is seen only once. The people claim to be camping, and act as though nothing is wrong when approached. They meet in a dirt road clearing midway down the mountain, the same area that Dean Lawson's red Miata came from. (Radford Horror 03)

Members

  • Five or six people with flashlights and at least one shotgun, around an idling vehicle with its headlights on. Huell hears someone speaking Spanish in a tense conversation.
  • A muscular teen in a letterman jacket, who does the talking and says they are camping.
  • "Uncle Trevor": a tall, thin white man in his late thirties or early forties, in an oversized coat, "methy" and jumpy, who reaches into his coat and stops himself. The teen introduces him as "my uncle Trevor."

History

After tailing Dean's Miata down the mountain at dusk, the team stops where it turns onto the dirt road. Huell Kendrick goes on foot with a night-vision scope, while Andrew Howard stays at the car with the elderly couple (see Howard and his wife). Huell gets close enough to hear tense Spanish. He breaks a twig, the voices cut out, and several flashlights click on as the group spreads into the woods. His Read a Bad Situation roll (11) gets three answers, among them that one of the flashlight carriers has a shotgun, and he works his way back toward the car. (Radford Horror 03)

Two members then reach Andrew's car: the teen and the twitchy man. The teen says they are camping and the man is "my uncle Trevor." Andrew bluffs that he is driving his parents home from the ski lodge (Manipulate Someone, 7), greeting them with "Oh, fuck! Scared the crap out of me." Sensing the situation will turn bad if he stays, he drives off, waits about fifteen minutes, and comes back. (Radford Horror 03) See Alpine Lodge.

In Radford Horror 07, the helicopter pilot Freak says he bought Mexican heroin from a young man at a party whom he identifies from Dean's description, and that the young man got it from "a bunch of Mexicans." In Radford Horror 08 the police close the case on Wilbur and the cartel. (Radford Horror 07, Radford Horror 08) See Dean Lawson's heroin and cash.

Trivia

  • Ezra points out that "you're allowed to go camping with shotguns and your friends." (Radford Horror 03)

What remains unknown

The episodes never establish whether this group supplied Dean Lawson's heroin, or belonged to the cartel the sheriff later blames.
